We were commissioned to write a Beatles style song based on the alternate reality book "Once There Was A Way" by Bryce Zabel. In the book The Beatles never break up. John Lennon and Paul McCartney continue to write music together well into the 1970's. One of those songs is "Show Up", written after John & Yoko got in a serious car accident. Paul & Linda McCartney rushed to the hospital to check on The Lennon's and soon after Lennon/McCartney created the song "Show Up" based on the events. With this premise Brian set out to write a song with that title and general Lennon/McCartney feel.
Obviously no one can reproduce the songwriting talents of any of The Beatles (even Ringo, hey Octopus's Garden is a great song), but with the idea that it's all for the fun of it, Brian wrote a song loosely based on the late 1969 Abbey Road/Let It Be Beatles sound.
Anchor & Bear then recorded the song with the assistance of Kc Staples (producer of Ahoy!) at his Casa Staples Studio. The song was laid down on a MCI 24 track tape machine (a late 70's model) to achieve the proper analog feel of Beatles recordings.
